Family Style Love at Mamma Maria’s

I went to the East Passyunk Car Show and Street Fest! I posted quite a few pics on my Instagram a few weeks ago! It was so much fun. It was super hot (which I love), great food, amazing vendors, and of course the cars!

Who doesn’t love amazing cars?!

All kinds of exotic cars. Of course I loved them all but also I was drawn to the red cars. Red is my favorite car. I currently drive a red car. I was walking along and was introduced to Mamma Maria! She gave me this warm welcoming hug. It was the kind of hug that warms the soul. It was as if we had known each other all of our lives! On a Sunday it was just the best feeling and expression of love. We chatted about what I do and her cooking!

Mamma Maria already had her set up going and towards the end of the event she was just about sold out. Before leaving Mamma Maria packed me and my oldest daughter some gnocchi, sausages, and broccoli. You couldn’t get the smile off of my face. One of my absolute favorite foods is Italian. My husband even popped the question to me at an Italian restaurant because I love it that much-outside of gummi bears of course! So I’m headed home with this warm pasta on my lap trying not to eat it in the car. As soon as I’m able I open it and goodness gracious-it’s that good. I didn’t even let it get cold so it was ready to eat and I found myself eating and eating!

I took my food outside because as a mom you already know kids don’t care what you are eating they want parts! I was able to eat the pasta outside without little hands in it. It felt like I was having a moment and Mamma provided it for me. Here I was after spending hours in the sun, in my happy spot at home having my favorite dish and content.

I don’t know if there are others who love Italian food as much as I do. The type that work out so they can keep eating fresh pasta, but if that is you-Run to Mamma Maria’s located at 1637 East Passyunk Avenue in Philadelphia PA! You will be in a little slice of Heaven with authentic Italian pasta made with love! Mamma will make sure you eat well and when you leave you will smile. You won’t worry about if the pasta hits your thighs. The only thing you will know is you ate some amazing food and you were treated with love!

Mamma Maria’s is open Monday-Friday from 10:30am-10:30pm and on Saturday from 4:30pm-11:30pm and on Sundays from 3:00-10:00pm!

Chima Shares All The Love

We went to Chima to celebrate our 7th anniversary. Between the ambiance, good food, amazing drinks; Chima is definitely the spot to enhance any celebration!

Anniversaries, birthdays, holidays, promotions or just because Chima is your go to! They will acknowledge your special day with flare. No matter the detail they will make sure you feel the love from the time you enter and until you leave! We first encountered Chima as a couple at our year 4 anniversary and it was just as special going back for year 7! Chima has the freshest foods you could ask for! There’s something for everyone!!

My favorites has to be the cinnamon pineapple. Like I get extremely giddy when it comes to the table! It’s so warm and fresh. Chima had to remember from my last visit. They were told a little birdy told them. God bless that bird because I had many slices!

Let’s talk about the Passion Fruit Dressing; it’s amazing!

The meats for those who eat it was top of the line and made to order!

Service is always impeccable! Shout out to Christian who was outstanding! He never let my cup go low and he knows that menu like no other. He made the night go super smooth!

I love that we could see the growth over the years and see how much joy Chima brings to our anniversaries!

It’s nothing to like getting dressed up to experience world class cuisine at a restaurant that stands by customer service and elegant delivery. You can ask any of the staff and they absolutely go above and beyond for every patron! They treated us like royalty! They are standing by to do the same for you! Consider them for your next event!

Here’s a few things that stuck out to me this visit:

For my parent friends they have a baby changing station in both men and women bathrooms!

There bar is amazing and don’t think for one second you won’t get amazing service vs being seated at a table because that’s not the case!

Speaking of drinks they are amazing it doesn’t matter which one you try!

Ten Asian Food Hall

So last weekend my blogger and friend Cherryl aka Phillyfoodgal and I went to Ten Asian Food Hall. It’s located at 1715 Chestnut Street in Philadelphia. I had never been before and you know how much I love trying new spaces.

Once inside it’s so much more open than I expected! The lighting in the restaurant is amazing. It’s clean which completely matters and the staff is interactive. So just for the first observations I definitely give my thumbs up. I walked a little further in and discovered the seating inside is amazing. It has a second floor as well.

So now that the aesthetics is pleasing let’s talk about food:

Variety:

This is a definite to please everyone on your list. There are options for pescatarian, vegetarians, carnivores, and vegans. Everyone can eat. From the appetizers to the dishes there is a little for everyone.

Signature Works

They have what’s called their signature dishes which are what they have already prearranged meals! The price ranges from about 8 dollars and goes to about 11. So it’s definitely price worthy options! You can select Ahi on Fire which is Ahi tuna, green and sweet onion, cucumber, masago, sesame seeds, and sriracha aioli. Everything is fresh!

Pick your Poké

Who doesn’t love an amazing poké bowl?! If made fresh and right it’s a one dish bowl of Heaven! You don’t have to worry about fresh at Ten Asian Fusion Food Hall! It’s made to order! Did you know they made poké bowls, sushi burritos, poké salads or even poké noodles. Your Poké you can have with either 2 choices for 10.95 or 3 for 12.95. You pick a 2-3proteins, 4 mix-ins, a flavor, 4 toppings and a crunch. I love choices especially when the choices!

Ten’s Bento Box

Here is where I like to call it a lunch or dinner on the run! It’s like a sophisticated TV dinner with much more style, flare, and taste! The one below is the La Galbi which is short beer rib over salad with Korean special grill sauce!

Hibachi Meal

You can even create your own Hibachi meal. It includes one protein for 9.25 or 2 for 11.50. It’s then served with stir fried rice, zucchini, onion, broccoli, carrot, and miso soup or salad! Oh and they even have fried tofu for my Vegan friends!

If that wasn’t enough…

Ten’s Ramen

They have Ramen! You get to pick your noodle, broth, protein and 4 ingredients for 10.95!! You can’t beat it!!

Bubble Tea

I love Bubble Tea! I also love Milk Bubble Tea but being vegan I haven’t had one since! That was until Sunday when I had their nondairy Milk! They have some really unique flavors such as Double Purple Milk Green Tea with Bubble!

So my Sunday Funday was great. I was so full from the options I only ate dinner no need to even snack!

Small Bites and a Big Punch all on The Deck!

I had the honor of attending a mix and mingle that was hosted by Roberta Pipito also known as homemadedelish on social media. You may have seen her doing correspondence on television as a lifestyle and food contributor. The mix and mingle was held at the Moshulu aboard The Deck. Now I have to be honest it was my first time. Out of the 8 years I’ve lived in Philadelphia not one time have I ever been aboard the Moshulu. I know it’s crazy to hear but this is why it’s important for me to see more of the city.

As a lifestyle blogger it’s important to blog life as it happens. One of the major aspects of life and living is eating and dining. When I go to establishments it’s important for me to take note of a few things; ambiance, decor, food, service, and fun and I can assure you that The Deck on the Moshulu has high marks for all.

Ambiance

I took a tour of the Moshulu and was able to see the newly renovated spaces. One word to describe it is: breathtaking! They have several decks to fit your needs. Obviously The Deck which I will be featuring has small bites and amazing drinks, they have several bars and dining spaces and event spaces as well.

When I attend spaces my mind goes to my lifestyle and many others. How can I utilize this space for date nights, time with friends or even if I wanted to bring my children? Let me say the Moshulu has you covered for whatever the occasion including just grabbing drinks after a long day. The Moshulu is the only restaurant aboard a working ship so the mere ability to dine or drink while seeing the city as your backdrop and watching the sunset is truly a beautiful thing to see! This is why it’s important to explore your own city. As much as it’s fun to travel do not miss your opportunity to see amazing jewels in your own backyard!

Decor

Having the water and city as your backdrop you don’t need much but the Moshulu has taken it up a notch with amazing unique pieces that will make your dining experience that much better. The uniqueness is something you will absolutely not see anywhere else. I can attest. Beautiful chairs, and looking up to amazing hand crafted ceiling pieces are just outstanding. At night you can see the glow of the lights and city and it makes it like an oasis of pure happiness!

Food

The Deck is the place to be. This is where you can get your small bites and unique drink offerings. This is great for grabbing a few friends or family and just ordering an assortment of bites to share. The food is incredible. The small bites will fill you and let’s be clear especially in the Summer small bites is perfect enough to pair with a drink but heavy enough not to have that overeaten fill! Light and airy but with good food is the way to go in the Summer.

Thanks to The Deck let me highlight a few must haves:

I love a good sangria. Sangria is like Summer’s special. It’s light and it’s good. The Deck took the Sangria and raised the deliciousness by a thousand. Not only is their sangria good it can be served in the pitcher to your table. For me that is good news. Instead of ordering a few drinks at a time, you can order the Deck Jugs and sip as you please. No waiting on someone to refill your cup the choice is now up to you! It can serve between 2-6 or more! If I had to recommend which sangria I loved I would go for the white!!

Another highlight is the Weekend Warrior! It’s a deep eddy sweet tea vodka, Pallini limoncello, mint, honey, lemon and iced tea. The first thing you’re gonna ask if you’re not a mint person is the mint strong? Nope. It’s the perfect combination and it can be served in the Deck Jug as well!

What if you’re the type that likes your drinks frozen since it is Summer you may want to cool off:

No worries I tried the strawberry margarita slush and it’s amazing from first sip to last!

Also the mango piña colada is delicious as well! It’s smooth and creamy! It’s one of those drinks that’s so airy that it doesn’t hit you right away! So here’s your: PSA don’t drink and drive and maybe catch an Uber Or Lyft!!

Now on to the food!! The Deck has food for every single palette. There is no one in your party whether it’s a party for 2 to 10 that they can’t accommodate! From soft pretzels to sushi to calamari they have you covered!

There’s always room for dessert and you are going to want to have some! We were given boozy Rice Krispies and an ice cream sundae that is definitely shareable! The boozy Rice Krispies came in mud slide, pina colada and margarita. The picture below doesn’t even do it justice. It’s worth trying for yourself! These definitely aren’t your kids Rice Krispies. The immediate escape to fun and your childhood was felt by all the smiles!

Service

I always remain low key to see how I am treated at the door before anyone knows why I am there or who I am! There was not one issue! All staff that I saw didn’t do the walk past you bit. Everyone was all smiles and acknowledged me and definitely was accommodating. I had nothing bad to report. How someone treats you before they know you will grade them says more to me about an establishment and The Deck and Moshulu get a definite A+ rating!

Fun

From walking on the ship until I left I had a ball! I had a ball because the ship is beautiful! I had fun because the weather was great and had it not Moshulu has options to still dine outdoors without the rain stopping the show! I had fun because the food was fresh and the drinks were amazing. Overall Moshulu and The Deck is the perfect Summer escape. It’s the best place to feel like you have taken on a long lost trip of adventure without having to leave far from home. It’s a beautiful place to hang out, connect or reconnect, and host your event or even a wedding!

Brunchin at Cuba Libre

So can I say sometimes I don’t always put things together when it comes to location. I am the one who needs needs their GPS! So when I was asked to go to Cuba Libre for brunch I had no idea that I had been there already. Last week I blogged about their drinks for Old City Eats Block Party. I had no idea they also have an amazing weekend brunch menu. So why should you stop in….

Well Cuba Libre’s food is absolutely amazing. I mean it taste so fresh and made to order. For my meat eaters, vegetarians, vegans, and pescatarians you are all on this menu. They have something for even the picky eaters as well as for my parent friends too!! Their kid menus have activities and a great selection to keep the Littles entertained while you enjoy a cocktail or two! The two floors of space makes for a great time. So let’s dive in:

Brunch especially for women is like a holiday within itself. It’s better than any other meal of the day. We love a good location, lighting for pictures, space, as well as amazing food so we can chit chat and catch up. It’s just an altogether amazing time. I got all of that and more at Cuba Libre! From the time I stepped in the door every last staff member treated me with love and like family. As always I peep restaurants out before they know who I am or why I’m there. It’s important for me to see how they are before they know I’m on assignment to get the essence of how they might treat followers. Trust me you are in good hands. I watched their interactions with all patrons and they were stellar. They were attentive and by far have a great serving rhythm! Trust me it’s important to know that before you head out!

The food was great. The waitress answered every question. When I brunch I always have at least one person who is picky and she was patient. She explained all of the options. Sometimes I ask questions because some places have people who don’t even know their own menu. She was on point and answered the questions thoroughly! I was impressed.

So they had passed the beginning phase. Let’s step into phase two and that’s food and that includes presentation, taste and temperature. Some restaurants mass make their food and once it gets to your table…it’s room temperature, but not at Cuba Libre. Everything was hot! Oh FYI we took so many pictures before we ate and the food was still hot! I like to make that equivalent to me and my girls talking and still being able to enjoy our food! They have a brunch special that is $22.95 which includes a small plate and large plate choice and an aqua Fresca. Here is an example:

Limonada-part of their aqua Fresca and amazingly fresh option for those who don’t drink alcohol

Above was probably the best combination that I could have picked. I picked this because this reflects what I would order. I couldn’t finish it. I had other items too but trust me it was outstanding. Knowing it was $22.95 was a great price too. I felt like I could keep control of my coins but eat well too.

Here are a few more items:

Corn meal pancakes served with mango butter and dark rum molasses syrup

Trio sauces that comes with tropical chips-black bean hummus, roasted cauliflower hummus with curried onions, and Cuba Libre salsa

Homemade Latin pastries includes vegetarian options too!

I didn’t have to do one thing for these pictures either. The lighting is amazing! Also presentation is everything and they hit it on the marker! The taste was mind blowing! Also I are the banana quinoa waffles 2 days later and they heated up perfectly. You can’t say that about most places!

For my alcohol drinkers I love a great drink to taste. No lie just like I had it at the Old City Eats, they are strong! I hate seeing a great drink on a menu that doesn’t come to life when I drink it. Cuba Libre lives up to their rum bar name. Rum is an experience and I tried their Bloody Mary with their Cuban rum-they knocked it out the park!

I also always look for an alcoholic spritz or amazing sangria and Cuba Libre has a red, white or blue in their brunch beverage:

I didn’t have my kids with me this time because often times I go to places and explore before I take them but next time I go I definitely plan to take them and the husband with me. The staff handled other patrons children well. They understood to bring the kids food without even having to ask. Again all things that I look for when I’m out. We know kids can get restless but they have enough space to accommodate large crowds, kids included!

Here are a few extra tips and extras to assist you:

They open on Saturday and Sunday at 1030! If you are going for brunch especially with kids go when they open. Also parking is on the street which is metered. Go early to get parking almost in front of the restaurant. I had absolutely not one issue finding parking. There are at least 2 lots on the block too. Brunch is served until 2pm! Again I would stress going earlier in the brunch hours. You can pick the brunch menu or go alacarte as well. You will get more for your money choosing the brunch $22.95 options and from there choosing what you want from that menu. You won’t be disappointed at all!!

This is a great place to take a first date, day date, family time, time with friends, group brunch, and you can sit by a window and have some me time!! It’s a kid friendly restaurant as well as clean and has an amazing atmosphere!

Trust me you will leave full and smiling!

Chima Philadelphia: Tomahawk Tuesday

Have you ever had a tomahawk steak? It’s a beef rib-eye with 5 inches of extra rib bone for presentation. The long bone looks like an axe which is where the name tomahawk comes from. So what does this amazing cut of steak and chima have in common? Tomahawk Tuesdays at Chima now allows you this beautiful cut of steak along with their other rodízio aka meats at no extra charge. Trust me you are going to want to go up on a Tuesday! I had the pleasure of spending an evening and I’m going to break it all down for you. From the options for all nutrition palates to drinks to dessert.

Valet

One of the best things about Philadelphia is the amazing restaurants. Chima is definitely ahead of the cut when it comes to style, service, and ambiance. One of the other features that many aren’t aware of is they offer valet parking for $11.00. Now not many have the patience to do like my husband does to circle around the block several times to stalk out parking. I know I don’t. Whenever I am going to a location after I do my Google maps to be sure I know how to get there is to find what parking accommodations they have. We all have seen that red Parking sign that says “limited.” In Center City you already know that parking is slim to none. Now you can not only pay for parking but have someone else park it with valet for $11 and trust that is a great deal! I love convenience. Being a woman on the go sometimes I am cutting it close to locations due to life and mom duties. It’s good to know that when I come to a Chima, I’ll have one less worry and I can enjoy my night out with less stress.

Drinks

Not everyone drinks and that’s quite okay as there are many assortments of non alcoholic drinks available. For those who do drink they have a unique menu. I would highly recommend trying the Chima Caipirinha. They come in the following flavor offerings:

  • Strawberry
  • Açaí
  • Pineapple
  • Passion Fruit
  • Orange

The Chima caipirinha is one of their signatures straight from Brazil. One of the things I look for with drinks is presentation, taste and quality of the drinks. I’ve been to many establishments where the drinks lacked in one or more of these areas yet the price remained the same. At Chima that is not the case. From first sip to last its amazing. Nothing is watered down and that’s always a great thing!

I also enjoyed the ultimate margarita! I love margaritas a lot. They are always festive and if made right a great choice for the night. Chima definitely put the ultimate into the ultimate margarita. The drink is filled to the possible capacity. I actually had to sip it down to even pick it up to drink!

Choices

So Chima is where my husband and I celebrated our 4th wedding anniversary and it had been that long since we there last as we are soon coming up on our 7th anniversary. Immediately I noticed the changes in their menus. In addition to the hard bound book you also get an iPad to look and view drinks, desserts, etc. all night. This makes it so much easier to see what you want as you listen in at the waiter/waitress recommendations. I found this to be super helpful for me in making my selections. Plus seeing pictures of what I wanted was helpful as well. FYI what you see in the picture is exactly how it’s coming out. There are no surprises!

Rodízio

So let’s keep it real, Chima is a Brazilian steakhouse so meats is there speciality. I will definitely cue you in on how to please all the non meat eaters as well in a minute. For those who love to eat meat, this is the oasis of meats. Quality and quantity is not ever an issue at Chima. When you arrive (for those who have never been) you are given a circled card. The one side says no thank you and the other side says yes please! The yes please signals the servers who will frequent your table often to ask you for your choice in selection and temperature (rare, medium, well down, etc.) of meat. As long as the yes please card is up they will ask and offer. When you want to take a rest, flip the card over and they will pass you by! Each place setting also has a tong that as they cut you can pull your selection as you go!

As far as meats there is chicken, steak, pork, beef, and sausages cooked in many varieties available daily while the tomahawk is available on Tomahawk Tuesday!

No other options?

Chima could be your go to for an upscale date night, a party, celebrating any and all occasions, or just to come in on Tomahawk Tuesday! Either way you may have a few or more in your party that doesn’t necessarily eat meats. It’s hard to please everyone but I can reassure you Chima has you covered. The salad bar is ahead of its class. This isn’t your run in the mill salad bar. The selections are fresh and have an amazing selections of foods for vegetarians, vegans, pescatarians and meat eaters alike. Just remember to always grab a clean plate when you’re ready to enjoy! For those who don’t want to sit at a traditional table the bar is available too. The bar is a great place for a great after work drink as well!

One of my favorites of the night was the pineapple with cinnamon. This comes along like the seared meats on a skewer for you to select. The pineapple also has brown sugar and it’s warm and something you didn’t even know you needed in your life. Not to mention the fresh veggie skewers that you can get with or without corn! They also have salmon cooked to perfection as well!

They also have a menu for gluten free options as well! This menu is separated so you know exactly which options will be appropriate!

Desserts if you Dare

Because all of the food is eat as you please you may not have a single ounce of room for dessert. However if you do they have a wide selection of choices. I would recommend the Brazilian Trio! The Brazilian Trio consists of Brigaderio aka Brazilian fudge and condensed milk, Beijinho which is coconut and condensed milk, and walnut cream!

Also consider the açaí cream! It’s açaí blended in Häagen-Dazs vanilla icecream and served with Frangelico liqueur.

The Apple Strudel is also a great contender as well served with cinnamon icecream and caramel sauce.

So as you can see you might just want to consider coming to Tomahawk Tuesday. One, dinner is served from 530-930 with last seating at 915pm! So if you’re like me and have to wait until late to grab a meal at times this would be more ideal. Two, Tuesday is better with tomahawk cut steak and you get to relax without all of the hoopla of the weekend crowd or run around. Don’t sleep on a Tuesday because with the Tomahawk in town you might find that it’s the new turn up in Center City!

Few house keeping rules: dress is always business casual. So no flip flops and sports gear. Plus you’re going to want to dress for the ambiance of where and what you’re eating. Eating high quality food should be understood to dress accordingly.

Summer Time in Old City: Old City Eats Block Party

One of the best parts about being in Philly is the amazing block parties. It’s something I didn’t see as often when I lived in Lancaster. In Philly you need zero reasons to bring residents together and it’s a party every time. Last night Old City threw a block party and it was the best prelude to Summer.

It’s officially Summer! One of my most favorite seasons! This means more fun, more sun, and dare I say more block parties. The streets last night was filled with people ready to have that Summer like fun. It was pouring rain earlier and I held back to see what the weather would do. Even despite the earlier weather, you couldn’t get a better outlook for the block party. The sun came out, it was a little humid and the rain left.

So I know between the tussle of the week day, the earlier rain that may have deterred your plans you might have missed it. There’s hope! Each week on Thursdays you will have the opportunity to attend Old City Eats as over 20 restaurants will be offering the best of the best for amazing eats and sips. You know I love to sip but I love it more in the Summer. I hadn’t been in Old City in awhile and it was great to see some of the eateries the area had to offer. Here are 3 restaurants that were amazing. I hope to go back a few more times to show case a few more during the Thursday run. These amazing sips will be offered every Thursday until August 29th. It’s a great way to start your early weekend and get out before Friday!

Cuba Libre Restaurant And Rum Bar

Who doesn’t block party without drinks?! Nobody that hangs with me! Cuba Libre has the drinks on lock with the selections of mojito, rum punch, beer, and empanadas. I personally had the mango mojito and the rum punch. Now I don’t know if people were getting more mojitos just because of the Summer feels but the rum punch was amazing! Oh and what’s a great drink without an amazing cup to drink it out of?! They served them inside of coconuts.

Makhani

So a few months back I had never even eaten Indian food. I went and had my first experience at Makhani and it was just pure amazing. Well they were at the block party too. So I had some of the chicken makhani, rice and some chicken sausage….It tasted like it did the night I had it. Every bite of it was delicious and most importantly the same level of love and hospitality was shown. Makhani’s food is always freshly prepared and is always to perfection. I have yet to have to alter it in any way. Oh and I brought some home to give to my husband who is super skeptical and I couldn’t catch his reactions quick enough! He went in!

Nick’s Bar and Grille

People day Bar food is usually not that good. They say that you have to drink enough liquor before you can really play down bar food. After eating at Nick’s I say that is a whole lie. I had the egg rolls and they had Italian and cheesesteak. Since Philly is known for their cheesesteaks I elected to go out the box and try the Italian egg rolls. If you have nothing else and I mean nothing else you must try the Italian egg rolls. It was the best egg roll I had ever had. As much as I love to eat that speaks volumes. Hands down you have to come and try them. I didn’t have the pulled pork nacho cheese but word on the street is by not having them is not living. Debate me on the egg rolls but to do so you would have to try it for yourself and then get at me!

As I stated above I will try my hand at a few more offerings in the Summer at Old City Eats. My Thursdays just got a little bit better. Join me and others as we get out and enjoy these amazing drinks and food specials!
